Trust and permissions
How we work with Etsy
We're independent, not partnered with or endorsed by Etsy. Dojo Lister connects with Etsy's official API, and only after you approve it.
The term 'Etsy' is a trademark of Etsy, Inc. This application uses the Etsy API but is not endorsed or certified by Etsy, Inc.

How connecting works
Everything we know about your shop comes from Etsy's official API (Open API v3). You approve access on Etsy's own page (OAuth 2.0 with PKCE), so we never see your password.

Step 1: On Dojo Lister
You press Connect
We make a one-time secret, good for 10 minutes, and send you to Etsy.
- etsy.com
Step 2: On Etsy
You approve, or decline
You sign in on etsy.com, never on our site, and see exactly what we're asking for.

Step 3: Back on Dojo Lister
We check it's really you
Etsy sends back a one-time code. We match it to your secret, so a leaked code is useless.
Today, connecting is a test
Full sync is still being built. Right now:
- With our Etsy keys in place, we swap Etsy's code for a token once, check which permissions you approved, and throw the token away.
- Without them, we stop as soon as Etsy sends you back.
- Either way, nothing from your shop is stored, and the next page tells you what happened.
By connecting, you agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Permissions
Three permissions, nothing more. Here they are in Etsy's words and in ours.
| Permission | Etsy's description | What it means for you | Why we ask |
|---|---|---|---|
listings_r | “Read a member's inactive and expired (i.e., non-public) listings.” | See all your listings, including drafts, inactive and expired ones. | To show and score every listing in the listing manager. |
listings_w | “Create and edit a member's listings.” | Create and edit your listings, with your photos. Nothing is saved to Etsy until you press Save. | To save new listings as drafts and apply changes you've reviewed. We never delete listings. |
shops_r | “See a member's shop description, messages and sections, even if not (yet) public.” | See your shop description, announcement and sale messages, and sections, even ones that aren't public yet. This doesn't include your conversations with buyers. | To know which shop is yours and group listings by section. |

listings_r listings_w shops_rAnd the ones we don't
Etsy only grants what an app asks for, so we can't see or change any of these:
- Orders, payments and salestransactions_r, transactions_w
- Your email addressemail_r
- Shipping addressesaddress_r, address_w
- Your private profileprofile_r, profile_w
- Deleting listingslistings_d
- Changing your shop info or sectionsshops_w
When you press Save
listings_w lets us save the listings you create and the edits you approve. That's all we use it for.
New listings start as drafts
Your photos and words go to your shop as a draft. You choose when it goes live.
Edits wait for you
You see every change first. Nothing changes on Etsy until you press Save.
We never delete listings
We don't even ask Etsy for that permission.
03
No AI, on purpose
We're not against AI. We just think a handmade shop deserves handmade advice.
Better listings, no AI needed.
Rules, not models
Scores and suggestions come from simple checks against Etsy's own listing limits.
Your words stay yours
We never feed your listings to AI or use shop data to train it. Etsy's API Terms forbid that too.
Runs light
Simple rules need far less computing power than AI models.
04
What we never do
Every dojo has rules. These are ours.
- See your orders, payments, or buyers' names, emails or addresses.
- See or store your Etsy password.
- Create or change a listing unless you press Save.
- Delete any of your listings.
- Sell or rent your data, or share it beyond the providers that run the service.
- Feed your listings into AI tools or use them to train AI.
- Send marketing to your buyers.
- Show “search volume” or other numbers Etsy doesn't provide.
- Use Etsy's logo, colors or fonts, or suggest Etsy endorses us.
05
Freshness and caching
Shop sync isn't live yet, so nothing from Etsy is stored today. Once it is:
Only as long as needed
We keep Etsy data only while we need it to show your listings.
Refreshed on Etsy's schedule
Listing details are refreshed within 6 hours, as Etsy's API Terms require.
Within Etsy's rate limits
We stay inside Etsy's limits, and slow down when asked.
06
Disconnecting and deletion
End the connection anytime. We then delete any Etsy data we hold within 30 days (today, there's none).
On Etsy, anytime
Remove Dojo Lister in Etsy → Account settings → Apps (Connected apps). That ends our access.
Open your Etsy apps (opens in a new tab)In Dojo Lister
A Disconnect button in Settings will end our access and delete your shop data.
Coming with full syncBy email
Ask us to delete your data. We'll confirm when it's done.

Etsy's rules
We follow Etsy's API Terms of Use. If this page ever disagrees with them, Etsy's terms win and we fix the page.
